Please meet my Toftys
The Toftys are based on a cross between the working welsh sheep dog ( a landrace breed) and rough collies. They usually grow larger than the welsh sheepdog being more the size of a rough collie and they carry a much more managable coat. They are very close to there owners they love children and will protect them are easy to train they live life to the full. They live to please. They are so good at agility flyball canni-cross and make super search and rescue dogs. Most of all they make great family pets. Some still work sheep/cattle. Being easy to train they make excellent asstiance dogs helping the disabled. The Toftys enjoy a wide range of colours including sable, shaded sable, shaded red, tricolour, black and white, sable merle and blue merle. The tofty project was started about 12 years ago by a very well known breeder of rough collies. This was because the Welsh sheepdog has been bred by farmers for brains health longlife and fitness, with only the very best being bred from. The Kennel club has no power over this breed so it has been untouched by breeders. The result is that the Welsh sheepdog has much more gene diveristy more healthy genes a wider gene pool so there fore is alot healthier than the rough collie. To be considered a Tofty it has to meet certain critiera which is ...One parent /grand parent has to be a Welsh sheep dog, the other parent has to be a rough collie. All must be DNA tested and be all clear, and there has to be at least one ancestor is to be a tofty. All Toftys are reg on there own regestration network and have a pedigree and each has the paperwork to prove there a tofty.It Is hoped that in the future as more toftys go into peoples breeding programmes the health and diveristy of the rough collie will improve. This tofty project is an on going project to restore the home spun diginity and charm of the orginal rough collie, with its traditional character and values The tofty is bred selectively to have greater diversity in the immune system haplotypes, in the hope it can better cope with our modern world
So you see the tofty is not just another cross breed, it has a purpose, a future , and is important. This breed has been designed to not be affected by CEA,PRA,DM,and 95 % are free from MDR1 gene mutation. It is the goal to create a breed that is 100% free of all these problems.

Yogi is my first home bred Tofty. He is quiet and is a serious dog,he thinks problems through he can solve puzzels. He has a wonderful character and nature. He is so friendly towards people and other animals. He is quiet and rarely barks. He loves his food and is so easy to train as he loves to please. I am training him to become my assistance dog. Yogi has a calm presence and as my first ever puppy tofty he has won me over to this breed. He does have a long tail and his coat is much easier to groom as its not as profuse as a rough. His mum is impulse and he has many of her traits.

Impulse was my first ever Tofty she has been DNA tested and is all clear non carrier for all known heradilty illness.
Impulse is fast, clever, and very loving, she enjoys being on the field with her son Yogi. She has been to some fun shows and been placed but more importantly she had a great time.
So far she has only has one litter there were 4 boys in that litter.
